At fourteen, I was given an impossible choice: a) stay in Liverpool, UK with all I knew, or b) to emigrate to the other side of the world, with nothing but my Mum + a backpack. I chose to leave, and it was the best decision for me, but at the time it was really tough.
But here’s the thing ...my move was a choice. We didn't have to flee for safety, out of fear for our lives or our future. We were able to plan and prepare. We got to say goodbye, and we knew we could always return.
My heart aches for the millions of people around the world who aren’t so lucky. For years, I volunteered and worked in refugee resettlement and support in NZ and Australia, and spent time in countries such as Uganda, Cambodia and Timor Leste - where war and poverty have forced people to flee.
I met some of the brightest, smartest, most loving beings on the planet in these roles. Their resilience and courage humbles me on the daily.
I want to support them, in a small way ...because what is the point of all of this personal growth and healing if we don’t allow it to ripple outwards and serve those around us too?
That is why I am committed to donating $2 of EVERY purchase of any of my offerings, to supporting the amazing mahi of Christchurch Resettlement Services.
